If you venture down to Brighton seafront and pop into the Naughty Pirates Gallery you won’t just find fantastic artwork by Heidi Rhodes (her “Daleks in London” creation is truly amazing!) and local horror maestro Billy Chainsaw you will also now find on sale issue one of Space Monsters magazine featuring pictures and articles starring none other than the Big G himself – Godzilla! As well as the Godzilla coverage, Space Monsters is 80 packed pages of retro heaven including Space:1999, THEM!, Star Trek, The Giant Claw, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, King Kong, The Twilight Zone and so much more!
Gallery owner Steven J Connett is himself a huge fan of the old classic horror and sci-fi movies and likes to support local artists and small businesses as much as he can. Steve told us:
” My parents allowed me to watch Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho on TV for the first time when I was just 11 years old – and it scared the living daylights out of me!”
It certainly didn’t put him off those creature features as he went on to tell us that he was a huge fan of the late night Hammer Horror screenings on television and the BBC2 Horror Double Bills when he was growing up, making him an avid supporter of the Classic Horror Campaign and Frighten Brighton events.
You can find the Naughty Pirates Gallery at the following address and it is open 12 noon – 4pm every day throughout the summer and then Thursday thru Sunday from September onwards.
