Hemlock Books

Hemlock Books is the UK’s number one for fans of film horror, mystery and the macabre. They stock a huge range of horror film books, magazines and fanzines and this is their first time at Frighten Brighton so please welcome them with open arms!

Robert Kenchington (Shane Briant Store)
‘The Shane Briant Store’ will make it’s first outing at Frighten Brighton!  Tied in with the screening of ‘Frankenstein & the Monster from Hell’ I will have an exciting range of exclusive Shane Briant goodies for Hammer Film fans including my pictorial biography and it’s companion volume, ‘Shane Briant, the Hammer Years’.   I also hope to have a variety of signed merchandise, including collector’s cards and flyers for Shane’s new autobiography, ‘Always the Bad Guy’.  In addition, there will be a special raffle for a signed DVD and more besides.
Doll Doll Dolly
Abigail loves to sew, draw, bake and just be creative in general.  Her greatest inspiration was her Nanny Doll Doll, who was full of joy and had the greatest laugh!  She sells her wares right on Etsy under the name Doll Doll Dolly;  she believes in making awesometasic accessories at affordable prices. Check out her creepy cushions!
House of Secrets
House of Secrets is an online depository for some of the bad, the beautiful and the downright  bizarre books they’ve been lucky enough to stumble upon over the years (& years!)  They’ve rummaging around in the darker corners of arcane bookshops and specialist book fairs so you don’t have to!  Based in Brighton, they buy, sell and collect vintage pulp fiction from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s – in particular horror and Gothic romance
Seiko Kato/Handmade Brighton
Seiko Kato is a freelance illustrator and artist living and working in Brighton. Her inspiration comes from Victorian medical books, old Victorian drawings and encyclopedia of things and Victorian paraphernalia.  She sells her work online and uses a array of different media including fabric, plastic and pencil drawings.
These are the 2 authors we have in the Haunted Basement…
N.J. Hallard
A self-published author and self-taught illustrator, Nick Hallard’s first novel Breaking News: an Autozombiographyis about a horror movie nut who has to deal with a real-life outbreak of the stinking undead one long, hot summer on the south coast of England. As a zombie geek he has this day pretty much planned already. But persuading his wife, friends and others to join him on his quest for survival might go slightly less smoothly…Nick is writing a sequel – Rising Up: an Autozombiography. He lives in West Sussex with his wife, child, cat and his haplessly befuddled beagle Floyd.  Catch him in the Haunted Basement where he’ll be signing copies of his book and artwork.
Lisamarie Lamb
At 12 she wrote her first novel during the school summer holidays. Loosely based on the Famous Five, with a bit of James Bond thrown in, it was an adventure story and her teacher made her read some of it out in class. And that’s when she realised that she wanted people to hear her stories and read her work.  Over the intervening years she has written various short stories, plays, poems and novels in different genres, including romance and children’s books. But it turns out that horror, the macabre, the slightly off, is her true love.  Catch Lisamarie in the Haunted Basement where she’ll be signing copies of her books.

Saffron Reichenbacker
Saffron is a Brighton based Artist and Illustrator.  In her work she attempts to create a world born out of obsessions with early cinema, vamps, flappers, vintage erotica, Mexican folk art, sultry sailors and fallen stars.  She sells her wares at fairs and markets and her beautiful work includes prints, badges, mirrors and magnets.
Yoram Allon / Wallflower Press
Wallflower Press is an independent publishing house specialising in cinema and the moving image. They are devoted to the publication of the highest-quality academic and popular literature in film, television and media studies Central to their list is the Short Cuts series, entry-level introductions to Film Studies for teachers and students of undergraduate courses. Thirty-eight titles within this unique series are already in print and the series will grow to well over sixty titles in the years ahead.  Parallel to this is the Directors’ Cuts series, higher-level monographs and edited collections on some of the world’s most innovative and influential filmmakers. Well over twenty titles in this series are now available, with many more on the way.
Billy Chainsaw
An eight-year-old Billy Chainsaw used Dick Smith’s now legendary Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-up Handbookto transform himself into something beyond hideous – so he could scare a visiting neighbour. Much to his delight, it worked a treat. After the initial shock, Billy’s female victim turned to his mom and said, “Don’t worry, he’ll grow out of it.” Fortunately, he never did! Which led to him carving out a niche for himself as one of the UK’s most notorious horror genre film critics and a maestro of all things weird!

Now the legendary Billy Chainsaw, film/dvd editor of Bizarre magazine and columnist for Shock Horror Magazine has launched his own range of some of the gnarliest and downright deliciously demented greetings cards we’ve ever seen!

Phoebe Kirk is a freelance illustrator/Designer working out of Brighton. Her Work revolves around subjects such as Gaming culture, Horror Movies and the oh so glamorous tradition of Burlesque. Primarily a digital artist, Kirk’s designs have been noted for having a comic book feel to them, opting for bold colourings and animated characters which portray a great amount of attitude, not unlike the artist her self! Kirk’s other work includes hand-crafted elements such as her range of Burlesque ‘Pasties’. Each painstakingly decorated to depict themes such as Vampire culture and the alternative scene.  All in all, an artist to keep your eye on.
These are just the tip of the iceberg with even more stalls already confirmed! If you would like a stall in The Macabre Market just email Scaresarah@gmail.com for details!
